New Installation: King’s College Hospital Jeddah Installs Vertex 222

New Installation: King’s College Hospital Jeddah Installs Vertex 222

UV Medico is proud to announce the successful delivery, installation, and staff training of Vertex 222 units at the brand-new King’s College Hospital London – Jeddah (KCH Jeddah).

The hospital, which is located in Saudi Arabia, has taken a proactive step by integrating Far-UVC disinfection technology from day one to support infection control in critical care areas. The Vertex units were installed in high-priority zones, including Intensive Care Units (ICUs), operating rooms (ORs), and isolation rooms.

Showcasing the Vertex: Far-UVC Technology Made Easy and Safe

The Vertex 222 is a unique, easy-to-use, and safer alternative to conventional UV disinfection systems.  It operates at the 222 nm wavelength, a range scientifically proven to destroy bacteria and viruses without harming human skin or eyes. Vertex-web-3

Unlike traditional germicidal UV lamps (typically 254 nm mercury-based lights that require empty rooms or protective gear), Far-UVC at 222 nm can be used continuously even in occupied spaces.  This means doctors, patients, and staff can go about their work with an added layer of protection operating in the background.

What makes the Vertex so special?

This product is designed to be either fixed or portable to offer complete room coverage decontamination. The lamps utilize strategically positioned light sources to ensure uniform distribution.

Additionally, Vertex lamps are mercury-free and energy-efficient, aligning with modern safety and environmental standards. In short, Vertex delivers a powerful solution to fight against HAIs with simplicity and safety, which is a key reason KCH Jeddah chose this solution for their new facility. (For a closer look at how the Vertex has improved hospital sanitization elsewhere, see our case at MMC Hospital.)

King’s College Hospital Jeddah Installation

Strategic Installation in ICU, ORs, and Isolation Rooms

Installing the Vertex units at KCH Jeddah was carefully planned. UV Medico’s team collaborated closely with the hospital’s staff to determine the optimal placement for each unit. Using lighting design software (DIALux simulation), we mapped out the Far-UVC coverage in each target room to ensure that every corner of the ICU and OR rooms received effective disinfection. The simulations accounted for room dimensions, furniture, and occupant locations, allowing us to visualize the UV light distribution in 3D and identify the best mounting positions. These ideal positions were then marked on-site with floor stickers as guides, streamlining the installation process and ensuring the units are placed in the optimal locations.

Altough the hospital is newly open, they chose to adopt Far-UVC Technology as a proactive infection control solution, to maintain high levels of decontamination since day one.

A Proactive Partnership and a Vision for Expansion

The successful deployment at KCH Jeddah was the result of close collaboration between UV Medico’s team and the hospital’s leadership. Mohammad Fawzi, UV Medico’s MENA Director, was on the ground to oversee the installation and training. He praised the hospital’s forward-thinking approach.

Our collaboration with King’s College Hospital Jeddah has been fantastic; their team is very proactive, which has made the implementation process run smoothly. We share a common goal of prioritizing patient safety and quality of care.

Future-Facing Infection Prevention with Far-UVC

As hospitals like KCH Jeddah look ahead, Far-UVC technology is poised to play a significant role in future-facing infection prevention strategies. The COVID-19 pandemic reinforces the need for new approaches to keep healthcare environments safe, and Far-UVC 222 nm light emerged as a promising tool in the fight against airborne and surface pathogens. Now, forward-thinking institutions are leveraging this technology not just for today’s challenges but to future-proof their facilities against tomorrow’s outbreaks.
