UV222 Pass-Through Box

The UV222 Pass-Through Box is a through-wall transfer chamber for contamination-controlled environments. It installs into a prepared wall opening between a lower-grade and a higher-grade room. Integrated Far-UVC (222 nm) fixtures reduce microbial load on exposed surfaces during a preset cycle,  while integrated HEPA filtration handles the chamber air - replacing manual wipe-down at one of the cleanroom's busiest control points.

Material transfer is a control point in every cleanroom operation. Tools, components and consumables can carry microorganisms on their exposed surfaces, and every transfer is an opportunity for that load to cross a classification boundary.

The UV222 Pass-Through Box applies that control to the transfer itself. Two cycle durations are set at commissioning: a longer cycle for material moving into the higher-grade room — 15 minutes by default, sized for transfers from non-classified areas — and a shorter 5-minute cycle for material moving out. The short cycle can also be run on the empty chamber between transfers. The door on the receiving side stays locked until the cycle completes; if a cycle is interrupted, the door stays locked and the load is re-run.  

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Defined exposure on every transfer -  the clean-side door releases only on successful cycle completion. If a cycle is stopped, the door stays locked and the load is re-run. 

  • Interlocked doors — simultaneous opening prevented under all normal operating conditions; override only through the service hatch, by trained service personnel. 

  • Two configurable cycles  — long (default 15 minutes, dirty-to-clean) and short (default 5 minutes, clean-to-dirty). Durations are set at commissioning and adjustable afterwards. 

  • Integrated Far-UVC (222 nm) panels above and below the load, angled toward the centre, with a perforated stainless-steel shelf so light reaches the underside as well as the top.

  • Chemical-free at the transfer point — no disinfectant and no residue on the material or in the chamber. 

  • Integrated air handling - HEPA filtration with an upstream activated carbon stage and variable-speed fan, running during the cycle, at idle, or in continuous recirculation.

  • Pressure configurable to the zones either side, with monitoring ports for external instrumentation.

  • LED countdown indication above each door — operators on both sides can see cycle status at a glance. 

  • Networked monitoring — an Ethernet connection to the built-in dashboard gives cycle durations, door and interlock state, fan speed, and per-module UV intensity, temperature and uptime. 

  • Configurable ventilation rates — adapted to in between any cleanroom grades.

The interlock is the primary safeguard. Far-UVC exposure is contained within a closed chamber, the panels are powered only when both doors are fully closed, and the receiving-side door releases only on successful cycle completion. Operators never enter the irradiated chamber; only materials pass through it.

Chamber air passes an activated carbon stage and a HEPA filter before recirculation. The UV222 Pass-Through Box supports GMP-compliant contamination control strategies — including Annex 1 — in pharmaceutical, biotech and high-grade laboratory environments.

The UV222 Pass-Through Box is designed for installation into a prepared wall opening between room grades. It is secured using mounting brackets, supported to prevent vertical movement, and finished with skirts and sealed external gaps. The Pass-Through Box is manufactured in stainless steel, with UV-resistant silicone sealing and heated soda-lime glass door windows. For maintenance, the HEPA and carbon filter assembly is accessed through a dedicated service door above the Pass-Through Box opening, while cleaning should be carried out according to the site's validated cleaning SOP.
