The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) is a scientific, private, non-profit, and nongovernmental corporation. They publish the guidelines Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs) for use by industrial decision makers regarding safety levels of exposure of various chemical and physical agents.
In this report, new TLVs for Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be found from page 152 to 157. Here, ACGIH states conditions in which they believe healthy workers can be repeatedly exposed without acute adverse health effects. Using the corresponding formula and based on a spectral weight coefficient, they set forth the TLV for 254 nm at 6 mJ/cm², and the TLV for 222 nm has been increased from 23 mJ/cm² to 479 mJ/cm², in the case of skin exposure, and 161 mJ/cm² for eye exposure.
