Understanding LiDAR Sensor Distance Fluctuations in Static Environments
If the lamp has the last firmware installed, the distance should vary just a few centimetres every time the measurement is taken.
This is because the LiDAR sends a laser beam forward and then measures the time it takes for it to return as a way to calculate the distance. The light is reflected via backscattering, as opposed to f. ex. the reflection of a mirror, so it is slightly diffuse – and therefore produces those slight variances.
